CMB Fund History

The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to battling breast cancer by supporting both new and established breast cancer research. Our foundation raises critical funding for breast cancer research in the Downstate New York region. Following her diagnosis with breast cancer, Carol founded the charity in response to the growing incidence of breast cancer in many Long Island communities. For the past 30 years, the Baldwin family, along with our board members and countless volunteers have been dedicated to fundraising, advocacy, education, outreach and community service. Since our establishment in 1996, we have given over 100 research grants totalling over 5 million dollars to support breast cancer research at The Stony Brook Cancer Center.

Since Carol’s passing in 2022, the fund has doubled down on our commitment to breast cancer research by officially pledging 5 million dollars to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Endowment Fund which will provide much needed support for breast cancer research in perpetuity. The impact of this endowment fund in addition to our annual research grants will be long-lasting and far reaching, a fitting tribute to Carol’s legacy.
